Abstract

Joshua Aaron Evans, 29, took his life while on remand at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility on Sept. 11, 2018.

The justice system failed to prevent his death and there has been insufficient accountability following this tragedy. Joshua, his family, other citizens with intellectual disabilities, as well as the public, deserve better. But it is not too late for the government of Nova Scotia to provide the searching response that such incidents demand: a thorough public inquiry.
