Dr. Michels is an academic law librarian and legal research instructor. He is an information scientist with a focus on human information behaviour in school, work, and everyday life contexts. He has researched extensively information behaviours in religious contexts.
 
He is an instructor in the first year Legal Research and Writing program. He is a Research Associate with the national Religion and Diversity Project. He has published and presented on aspects of Legal Information Literacy, Religion and Information, and Religion and the Media. He is a member of a number of academic and professional associations and is currently the Co-Chair of the Academic SIG for the Canadian Association of Law Libraries.
